Children (Phase One)
It’s best for Dr. Jen to see children by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment would be beneficial to dental growth and development during a Phase I / Phase II treatment approach or to wait until all permanent teeth have erupted. The first permanent incisors and molars have usually come in by age 7 and crossbites, crowding, and other problems can be evaluated. When treatment is initiated early (Phase I), Dr. Jen can guide the growth of the jaws and insure proper spacing for future permanent teeth. Early treatment can also correct the width of the upper and lower dental arches, insure space for permanent teeth, correct crowding of the incisors, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. In other words, early treatment can simplify or eliminate the need for later treatment.
Teenagers (Phase Two)
This part of your orthodontic journey will include all of your permanent teeth! This phase can last in duration from 1 to 3 years depending on amount of orthodontic correction needed. Dr Jen will follow your Oral Hygiene closely and expects your cooperation from time to time. Braces are fun but require some “work” as well. We strive on a “team approach”. Your braces will be removed only when – you love your smile, your parents are pleased with their investment and Dr. Jen has completed all treatment goals. We pride ourselves on knowing that you will have a smile to cherish for a lifetime!
Adults
It’s never too late – for you adults, of any age, to improve the function of your teeth while enjoying the benefits of a beautiful smile. Society is becoming more aware of the importance of proper functions of the teeth and jaw, as well as the boost in self-esteem when you have a great smile. Adult orthodontics is growing to meet the needs of restorative & preventative care. We will work closely with your oral surgeon, periodontist, or endodontist, as well as your general dentist to make sure you have the results that benefit you the most.

Our Initial examination will determine if you are a candidate for Orthodontic treatment and help you choose from our many types of braces or clear aligners to fit your lifestyle.

Silver / Metal Braces
Metal braces are the most traditional choice for orthodontic treatment. They have so many positive attributes – very comfortable, low-profile, easy to clean, and provide more efficient tooth movement. These brackets are also very fun – you may decorate them with as many wild and exciting colors as you choose!!
Clear / Ceramic Braces
Are you really wearing braces? These braces are made of clear materials similar to glass – therefore, they are less visible on your teeth than traditional metal braces. We usually reserve these brackets for our older teen patients and adults with more cosmetic concerns. They are slightly bulkier than metal brackets and do require more attention to oral hygiene. We prefer to use clear braces on the upper teeth only due to their size and brittleness – in some circumstances, we are able to place clear brackets on the upper and lower teeth.
Invisalign
Invisalign is an exciting advancement in orthodontic tooth movement! They are nearly invisible and completely removable aligners that will straighten your teeth. Dr Jen prefers to use these appliances for patients that do not require extreme tooth movements – they will provide acceptable results for mild to moderate crowding. Commitment is a MUST! They have to be worn 22 hours daily! Patients are required to be responsible – aligners are easily lost and are only effective when worn faithfully. Dr Jen screens each patient carefully before offering clear aligners as an option.
